This year the harvest begins in the middle of September - two weeks later than 2003, but two weeks earlier than 2004. Each year, the first grapes harvested are Morio Muskat. This traditional Pfalz grape variety - which has developed quite a cult following internationally in its Lingenfelder Bee-Label Morio Muskat incarnation - has a wonderful floral bouquet and produces a light, easy to enjoy wine..

After the Morio, we will begin to bring in the Dornfelder. Dornfelder is an early ripening, deeply colored and all-around versatile grape variety. Our Dornfelder is aged in both new and older oak barrels. The wine from the small, new, oak barriques is almost black in color and has enough structure to allow it to be aged for many years. The wine we keep in older barrels has less oak structure and more up front fruit flavour. It is this style that is known around the world as the Lingenfelder Fox-Label Dornfelder. The Fox-Label is lighter, fruitier, and generally considered to be a yummy wine for daily consumption. Many wine stores keep a few bottles of the Fox on hand in the wine cooler, as this wine drinks quite nicely chilled on a warm summer day.
