2003 Freinsheimer Goldberg Scheurebe Spätlese
medium-sweet white wine, estate grown and bottled

The nose is a bit reserved at this time. This wine still needs time to blossom and open up, as Scheurebe can be particularly temperamental when it is young. The mouth-feel is spot on, with an auslese quality fullness and texture. Honeyed tones of pears, flowers, plums and watermelon give the wine a pleasant, relaxed feel. I can’t explain it, but this wine makes me want to roast a suckling pig over hot coals in a backyard barbeque – Scheurebe has a tendency to make people go off on flights of fancy, so you will have forgive me this excess.
